Ukrainian bishop convicted for evading mobilization

The Kalush court found Kirill (Mykhailo Mykhaliuk), a bishop of the Uzhgorod-Khust diocese, guilty of obstructing the Armed Forces. Since June 2023, he fraudulently issued deacon certificates to 291 men, allowing them to avoid conscription.

The service cost $1,000 initially, rising to $2,000 later. The bishop reached a plea deal with prosecutors and received a suspended sentence.
