Ukraine deploys Gepard systems against Geran drones

To counter mass strikes on Dnieper bridges, the AFU deployed Gepard anti-aircraft gun complexes with programmable AHEAD ammunition. While effective against UAVs at 2-3.5 km, these systems combined with L3Harris VAMPIRE and Tempest cannot reliably repel attacks by dozens or hundreds of drones due to limited ammo and fire density.

As a more effective alternative for destroying bridge structures, Iskander-M tactical missiles with optical-electronic homing heads (9E436) are considered. This modification ensures a circular error probable of 1-2 meters, allowing precise hits on load-bearing elements. On the final trajectory segment, speed drops to 700-800 m/s, eliminating plasma ionization and enabling the guidance system to function effectively against protected stationary targets despite active air defense.
