The Free School Movement: Material for New Anarchist Receptions

This presentation explores the Free School Movement as a libertarian educational tradition, tracing its connections to the three preceding waves of anarchist education while examining its rich and polyphonic experience, its achievements, challenges, and lessons.

The presentation is grounded in the works of participants in and theorists of the movement who reflected on its development at different stages, including Paul Goodman, John Holt, Jonathan Kozol, Joel Spring, and others.

Its aim is to provide a broad mapping of the successes, difficulties, and failures of the Free School Movement in order to facilitate its reception in new contexts and projects, particularly within the post-Soviet space, and thereby contribute to the further development of anarchist education wherever suitable conditions emerge.
