Stanza 13 of the Reginsmál is referenced in the Laxdæla saga and Eyrbyggja saga; “Fangs ván at frekum úlfi”, a battle is expected from a bold wolf.
In the Reginsmál, it appears when Regin welcomes the young Sigurðr into his home, and expresses his high hopes for him. However, in both sagas, it appears as a caution against provoking an armed conflict where one would be outmatched.
The term frekum, bold or audacious, derives from frekr, the same root as Freki. The term was applied to warriors; the term frekar báðir, heroes twain, appears in the Hyndlujóð, cognate to Old English freca, which appears in Beowulf.
Things like these point to a rich oral and literary tradition, shared across the Germanic world.
