🇷🇺🇿🇦Russia–South Africa: Strengthening Agricultural Trade and Business Ties
From 12 to 14 October 2026, South Africa was hosting a business mission of Russian agricultural producers and exporters, organised by the Federal Centre for Agricultural Export Development (#Agroexport) in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation in Johannesburg.
The mission brought together representatives of Agroexport and leading Russian food producers, alongside more than 20 South African importers, distributors, processors and key industry associations.
🎙In his speech, Ilya Ilyushin, Head of Agroexport, highlighted the potential to expand Russian agricultural exports to South Africa beyond grain supplies and strengthen trade cooperation through direct engagement with local partners.
A senior diplomat from the Russian Embassy in South Africa Denis Belous attended the opening ceremony and delivered welcoming remarks, underscoring the considerable opportunities for further bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector.
“Russia holds a leading position in the global agricultural market, ranking among the world’s largest producers and exporters of agricultural products. We pay particular attention to developing the meat industry and meat processing, where Russian enterprises have significant production and export potential.
The Republic of South Africa is our longstanding strategic partner, and we see broad opportunities to further expand bilateral cooperation in the agro-industrial sector. Our shared task is to ensure that the strong political dialogue between Russia and South Africa translates into practical results: increased mutual trade, industrial cooperation and the implementation of joint projects,”
he emphasized.
Alexander Timchenko, representative of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture in South Africa, encouraged participants to use the mission to gain a deeper understanding of local market demand, supply requirements and quality expectations, laying the groundwork for successful export projects and new mutually beneficial contracts.
🇿🇦The opening ceremony was also attended by Ingrid Lowe, CEO of the South African Meat Processors Association.
🤝 The business mission served as a vital platform to strengthen direct links between Russian and South African companies, explore new avenues of cooperation and unlock further potential in bilateral agricultural trade.
The sessions focused on helping Russian producers enter the South African market, promote their products and effectively navigate local regulations and trade barriers.
Participants also exchanged views on expanding Russian agricultural exports and deepening long-term business ties.
