🏰 Pskov-Pechory Monastery in Russia 🇷🇺: Facts and History

📜 The monastery was founded in 1473, when the cave Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God was consecrated in a sandy hillside.

⚔️ In the 16th century, the monastery became the fortress, protected by stone walls and towers. In 1581 its defenders withstood a siege by the forces of Polish King Stephen Bathory.

⛪ Throughout more than 550 years of its history, the monastery has never been closed.

📍 Today the Pskov-Pechory Monastery is one of the most-known historical and architectural landmarks of the Pskov region.
