📆 #OTD, 25 September marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–1975) — one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, whose creative work has become an integral part of the world musical culture.

🎹 Shostakovich left behind an impressive musical legacy: 15 symphonies and 15 string quartets, concertos, chamber and piano works, operas, vocal compositions and music for films.

🎻 A special place belongs to Symphony No. 7, the “Leningrad”, which he began composing in 1941 in besieged Leningrad. On 9 August 1942, during the hardest days of the siege, the symphony was performed in the city by the Leningrad Radio Orchestra, becoming a musical symbol of resilience and courage.

🌍 Shostakovich received wide international recognition already during his lifetime. Today, his works remain part of the global classical repertoire, continuing to speak to audiences about tragedy and courage, memory and human dignity, pain and hope.
