📆 #OTD, 25 September 1945, a record-breaking delayed parachute jump from the stratosphere was performed in the Soviet Union.

🪂 Soviet parachutist Vasily Romanyuk jumped from an altitude of 13,108 metres, opening his parachute at only about 1,000 metres above the ground. His free fall lasted for more than two minutes.

The jump was an extraordinary achievement for its time. At such an extreme altitude, Romanyuk had to withstand freezing temperatures, thin air and severe oxygen deprivation.His record marked an important milestone in the history of Soviet parachuting and high-altitude flight research. The experience gained from such pioneering experiments later contributed to advances in high-altitude equipment, aviation medicine and aircrew rescue systems.

Over the course of his career, Vasily Romanyuk completed 3,475 parachute jumps and set multiple world records.
