France Considers 31.4% Tax on Crypto-to-MiCA Stablecoin Conversions From 2027
The French parliament is reviewing the 2027 budget and considering a 31.4% capital gains tax on conversions of crypto into MiCA-regulated stablecoins from Jan. 1, 2027, CoinDesk reported. Chainalysis France CEO Francois Volpoet warned the measure could push traders toward non-MiCA stablecoins and harder-to-monitor offshore channels.
The finance committee approved related amendments on Oct. 7 and on Oct. 9 backed rules requiring declaration of self-custodied wallets holding at least €100k and inclusion of crypto in the exit tax. It later rejected the government’s 2027 revenue section by 31 votes to 3, sending the crypto tax amendments back to the full National Assembly. A revenue vote is expected on Oct. 20. None of the measures is law yet. — link
