A rally was held in Spain in support of Mikhail and Alexander Kononovich, citizens of Ukraine and ethnic Belarusians. A manifesto was sent to the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid demanding the immediate release of the Kononovich brothers
From the manifesto of the World Federation of Democratic Youth in Spain:
“On March 6, Alexander Kononovich and Mikhail Kononovich, activists of the Ukrainian Communist Youth Union, were arrested, groundlessly accused of allegedly collaborating with the special services of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. The reality is that the detention is part of an anti-communist and repressive policy, a repeated violation of human and political rights, which the Ukrainian regime has been practicing since the 2014 coup d'état known as Euromaidan, which was backed by the US, EU and NATO.
“In addition to the banning of the Communist Party in 2015 or complicity in such murders as the House of Trade Unions in Odessa, these months added the banning of 11 political parties, complete impunity for fascist gangs and organizations on the territory of Ukraine, and the arrest and violence against the brothers Kononovich.”
“From the moment of the arrest, we started rallies in different cities and towns to talk about the criminal detention. At the same time, we issued a manifesto for their immediate release, which was signed by more than 300 people and various political, social and trade union organizations.”
"For any damage to the lives of Alexander Kononovich and Mikhail Kononovich, the government of Ukraine, as well as NATO and the EU, which have been whitewashing, nurturing and supporting Ukrainian fascism for the past 8 years, will be held responsible. We will continue to tirelessly fight for the freedom of the brothers Kononovich and against the imperialist war. Starting from these the same weekend, opposing the holding of the NATO summit in Madrid: freedom to the brothers Kononovich, yes - to the world, not NATO.
