The proposal to ban was made by Mayor Vladimir Borisenko.
The city council also established the protection of religious buildings of the UOC and banned any meetings and demonstrations.
Previously, the activities of the UOC were banned by the decision of local authorities in the cities of Konotop, Brovary, Borislav and others.
Mayor of the city of Svyatogorsk Vladimir Bandura reported that on June 4, retreating Ukrainian troops set fire to one of the premises of the monastery of the UOC Svyatogorsk Lavra:

For several years in a row, ultra-right formations and local authorities continue to seize the church premises of the UOC.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has a bill to ban the UOC throughout Ukraine.
Some supporters of the UOC, such as the poet Yan Taksyur, were arrested by the Security Service of Ukraine and charged with "high treason."
In order to avoid repression, on May 27, 2022, the UOC Council decided to declare independence from the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). Prior to this, the UOC was an autonomous church within the ROC.
Also, Metropolitan Onufry of the UOC condemned the actions of Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church.
As you can see, such actions of the UOC did not lead to an end to the repressions and prohibitions of the church.
