🌴 Vocabulary Wednesday: Vacation 🌴
Vacation comes from the Latin vacare, meaning “to be empty” or “free.” Originally, it meant a time free from work or duties — the perfect break to relax and recharge!
Originally, this word didn’t mean going to the beach or traveling to a new place — it referred to a time when someone was free from work, duties, or responsibilities.
Over time, vacation evolved to describe an extended period of leisure, often during summer, when people take a break from their jobs or school. It’s that special time when schedules are emptied, and freedom is filled with relaxation, travel, and fun!
🇺🇸 Fun fact: Nearly 70% of Americans take a summer vacation each year to unwind and spend time with family and friends!
