We also were told that family income is the highest, at 87,500, that it's ever been. We were told the stock market, despite its up and down, Standard & Poor's and the Dow, are now 10.5% roughly over January's figure. The unemployment rate is 4.2. We had 160,000 new jobs. And for all the oil spikes, given the war and the tensions, the inflation rate is hovering around 3%. It's still about 60% of what the average rate was under Biden.

And yet it's kind of like 1992. It's Donald Trump's fault, just like it was in '92. The left said it's the worst recession since the Great Depression, and everything is horrible. But when you actually look at '92, the GDP was 3.5, the inflation rate was about 3%, the stock market went up 7%.

And so it's kind of frustrating that that type of tragic hero, it doesn't win the affability or the support of his own people or his own power constituency, much less the opposition that despises him, even as he accomplishes all these things, despite they were fully aware that Donald Trump was going to tweet, he was going to say outrageous things.

He's the first political figure, the first president that I've ever seen in my life, that I can't think of one instance or condition that he's ever retracted anything or apologized. Sometimes he should have. I mean, we're watching every socialist candidate wipe clear their Truth Social accounts. You would think that Donald Trump had ample need to do that, but he never does.

So whatever he is, he's absolutely authentic. There's no modulation or change in the accent like Hillary or Obama or Joe Biden or Kamala Harris. He is-he wears that outfit, the suit, the red tie, the black shoes, whether it's 105 degrees and he's talking to farmers or he's talking to a Black audience. He doesn't-and he is what he is. And that's very hard for people to take.

The Midterms, MAGA's Place in History and Trump's Successors:

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: People should remember, 38 out of the last 41 midterms, the incumbent party lost seats in the House and Senate, and when they were close, they lost control. So it's not unusual. We don't know what's going to happen. The polls don't have a good history sometimes, but he's definitely in trouble. We'll see what happens.

But the presidency-what he's trying to do right now is already in motion. And he's not going to lose a veto-proof Senate. I mean, it's not going to happen where the Senate and the House can write legislation that can withstand a veto.

So it's going to be more a deadlock. And he's going to do what Barack Obama did after his setback in 2014, where he said, "I have a phone and I have a pen." And he did. He had more executive orders in that last period than anyone.

He's going to rule that way. I don't think the foreign policy will be affected. And then there's going to be-everybody had thought that J.D. Vance would be the heir because he's ahead in the polls. He's a wonderful debater. He's a great politician, young, and he's a MAGA adherent. But people had not thought that Marco Rubio, in that position, would be so brilliant, and he has been.

And then there's a problem in the MAGA base that there are apostates. You know, Congressman Massie, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson, people like that, maybe Megyn Kelly, that have turned, that don't want to support Trump in some cases. In the case of Tucker and others, they definitely have an antisemitic element to their critique.

So that has to be-that's going to have to be dealt with, even though in numbers they're very small, but in audiences they have some influence. And they're trying to deliberately, I think, be more outrageous to put J.D. Vance in a position where he has to disown them at some point and cause even a greater rupture. But he's going to have to deal with that, and that's the only problem I see.
