Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) said impeaching President Donald Trump for a third time would not be a mistake during an interview on "Meet the Press."

KRISTEN WELKER: All right, Congressman, let's turn to the potential impact of the midterm elections. Democrats already debating how aggressively they should investigate and potentially even impeach President Trump should they, in fact, take back control of the House. But Senator Tammy Duckworth is warning Democrats against doing that. I want to play a little bit of what she said and get your reaction on the other side.

SEN. TAMMY DUCKWORTH: Don't be impeaching anybody. Let's just get back to work. I'm not interested in being in a confrontation with Donald Trump. I can be. I have been. It's not going to stop me. But I would rather move the ball forward for the benefit of the American people.

KRISTEN WELKER: Is impeaching President Trump a third time a mistake for Democrats?

REPRESENTATIVE RO KHANNA: No, it's not. Because it's not about Donald Trump. He's going to be a lame duck, and in my view, increasingly irrelevant. The point is to stand up for the Constitution. Impeachment says that you can't get into an illegal war in Iran without constitutional approval. Impeachment says that you can't just start firing federal employees in defiance of what Congress says. Impeachment says you can't do deals with foreign governments to allegedly enrich your own family. It's about setting a standard. And the Democrats can impeach to uphold constitutional values, and at the same time, have a first-hundred-day agenda that deals with the cost of living. To have child care. I just unleashed a free child care plan, to have an increase in minimum wage, to have paid family leave, to tax the billionaires. We can do both.
