Is anyone fascinated by names and the meaning or origin / etymology of the name including its historical and cultural background?

For example after watching Braveheart I realized that there were distinctions between Scottish Irish English names.... or even for example that certain names had a connection e.g. CHARLES CHUCK CHARLEY CARL all mean FREED MAN OR FREEMAN HENCE a connection to the FREEMAN surname
