Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has described the Pegasus spyware scandal as one of the biggest scandals in Poland’s history since the fall of communism, raising concerns over the use of Israeli-developed surveillance technology.
Tusk said more than 60 million zlotys were spent on the spyware, including 25 million zlotys that were supposed to be allocated to compensating victims. He accused those involved of using public funds to acquire equipment for extensive electronic surveillance.
Investigations reportedly uncovered the transfer of data involving political figures and independent prosecutors.
Pegasus, developed by Israeli company NSO Group, is an advanced spyware tool capable of infiltrating mobile phones and accessing their data.
