Daughter of Edward Said Slams Palestine Coverage in Mainstream Media, Warns of TikTok Ownership
Speaking with Variety, Najla Said, daughter of Edward Said, criticized mainstream media coverage of Palestine, describing it as “unbelievably skewed and outrageous.”
She criticized networks for favoring left-leaning Jewish and Israeli commentators over Palestinians and recalled how television presenters belittled her father and made dehumanizing remarks about Palestinians during interviews.
Said also expressed alarm over Bari Weiss’s leadership at CBS News, recalling her efforts as a Columbia undergraduate to have professors like her father fired for their positions on Israel and Palestinian rights.
Said also called the sale of TikTok to a venture involving Larry Ellison and Rupert Murdoch “terrifying,” warning that corporate control could undermine social media’s role in amplifying pro-Palestinian voices, particularly among younger audiences.
