A Symbolic Detention

According to attorney Nikita Chekman, Metropolitan Sergiy of Tulchin and Bratslav was detained today by TCC officers.

The hierarch and the clergyman accompanying him were sent to undergo a military medical examination.

If His Eminence is indeed drafted into the army for military service, this will be the first instance of a clergyman of this rank from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church being mobilized. Moreover, it will pave the way for attempts to implement a similar scenario with regard to other bishops.

And something tells us that it will not be representatives of the autocephalous camp who will be “dragged out,” but rather their opponents.
