No one should think that this path is intended only for great ascetics, such as Seraphim of Sarov. No, we are all called to shine. Hidden within us is a great treasure and a door to God—our spirit, created in His image. The trouble is that this door is guarded by an ugly “dwarf”—selfishness. It is afraid of everything, worries about everything, chatters incessantly, and is mired in curiosity. But it can be driven away. How? By beginning with the purification of the conscience—this is the first step toward Transfiguration. Do not act against love and conscience, and you will see how your mind changes, how peace, stillness, and love reign within it. Then there will be self-denial, detachment, and radiance in glory.
