Britons are facing a stealth tax rise as inflation climbs and tax thresholds remain frozen.
According to the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), this could bring in an extra £9 billion a year in income tax by 2029-30. Meanwhile, the government needs to find another £35 billion to fund public services and defence.
And this is how the government chooses to tackle the problem: putting even more pressure on British families and businesses, all for what amounts to a drop in the ocean. Instead of cutting welfare spending, it's determined to squeeze ordinary people even harder.
