dear Professor Dumbledore,

my name is petunia evans and i am the older sister of lily evans. i know that she has been accepted to Hogwarts because i saw the letter that came for her and i saw our parents looking so pleased. they were ever so proud, Professor. i suppose my sister truly has a great future ahead of her. but i promise you, i am no worse than lily.

i know lily seems really good. she probably is. our parents like to call her ‘our precious lily’, because she is kind and cheerful and she always finds a witty words to rise something in people. she is talented. i know all of this, Professor, because every single day i have the joy of watching how people always choose her instead of me. you have done it, too.

but i can do so much more! i can be diligent and hard-working and responsible. i do realise that magic might be difficult for an insensitive girl like me (that is what my mother says), but i will try my very best to prove her wrong. i have nothing to keep me here, Professor. i have always promised my parents i would be a good daughter, and i have always kept that promise, even though lily was never asked to do the same. i suppose it is because i am the eldest. i am already quite grown up, so i suppose i don’t need as much love as my sister does. that’s fine.

if you would consider my letter, sir, i guarantee you i will be a hard-working pupil, even better than my sister.
