Is America the New Rome?
The comparison is everywhere—but does it actually hold up?
This article argues that America is not the Roman Empire. While both became powerful global powers, they were built on fundamentally different civilizational foundations. Rome eventually became the heart of Christian civilization. America emerged from a very different political and ideological tradition.
Understanding those differences matters if we want to make sense of America's current crisis and avoid forcing history into misleading analogies.
If we misdiagnose the problem, we'll misunderstand both America's future and the role of Orthodox Christianity in a changing world.
