☦️ France’s Forgotten Orthodox Christian Roots
Long before the Great Schism of 1054, the lands we now call France were part of the Christian world of the undivided Church.
Saint Irenaeus of Lyon, Saint Martin of Tours, Saint Hilary of Poitiers, and other great saints of Gaul lived centuries before the division between Eastern Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism. Their faith, worship, theology, and spiritual inheritance belong to the common heritage of ancient Christianity—and therefore to the Orthodox Church as well.
The Christian history of France cannot simply be reduced to its later relationship with the Vatican. Beneath the modern religious landscape lies an ancient Christian tradition filled with martyrs, bishops, missionaries, monks, and saints.
France has Orthodox Christian roots. 🇫🇷☦️
