New on Orthodox Reflections: The Akathist of Saint Zayya (Zaia) the Blessed
Rejoice in this powerful Akathist to a great pre-schism saint of the Undivided Church — Saint Zayya the Blessed, the 4th-century hermit, miracle-worker, missionary, and vanquisher of death itself! Born miraculously on the day of the Lord’s Ascension, this holy ascetic fought demons in the desert, converted kings and multitudes, healed the sick, raised the dead, and was granted the rare charism to command the Angel of Death to depart. Venerated especially by the Assyrian faithful, he remains a swift helper for travelers, a protector from plagues and untimely death, a deliverer from demonic attacks, and a guide on the path of salvation.
