The American South has long been spiritually famished—starved of true miracles by Protestant skepticism (Luther called saintly wonders "silly," Calvin said they've "vanished away," and Enlightenment thinkers like Hume dismissed them outright). This drought led to Pentecostalism sweeping through like wildfire, with healings and tongues, yet often veering into mediumistic dangers (as Fr. Seraphim Rose warned: much of it psychic/spiritist rather than divine). But the authentic source remains: the Orthodox Church, where miracles flow from Divine-human synergy, the deification of matter through Christ's Incarnation, and saints like St. Cuan (who crossed water dry-shod, expelled demons, removed tumors, and more).
