Worship in Heaven is liturgical, as revealed to St. John and recorded in Revelation. Standing before the Throne are 24 Elders. This Akathist honors them. We often read Revelation for the prophecies, but we should also meditate on what we learn about Heaven. "You were seated on thrones like royal faces, Saints, participating directly in the glory of the Holy Trinity, hearing and seeing the lightning, voices, and thunder coming from the Throne of God, and looking at the seven torches burning before it"
