🇵🇱🇷🇴 Poland and Romania reject expansion of Ukrainian grain transit
Poland and Romania stated that, in view of the ongoing problems with the Black Sea routes, they can no longer significantly expand the possibilities for transporting Ukrainian grain through their territory. Kyiv is asking neighboring countries to increase the capacity of alternative routes while also seeking €1.1 billion from the EU as compensation for the increased transport costs. If the situation cannot be changed, up to 35 million tonnes of grain could remain in Ukraine by the end of the year, Politico writes.
Romania stated that its possibilities were limited by the capacity of its ports and rail and road connections, and that the interests of its own farmers would continue to have priority. Poland’s Infrastructure Ministry also said that it was planning no changes aimed at increasing the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products.
