A Fuel Shock for Britain: a possible US ban on diesel exports would have “catastrophic” consequences for the country, The Telegraph writes.

Around one-third of the diesel fuel imported by the United Kingdom comes from the US, while foreign supplies account for approximately 55% of the country’s overall consumption. If Washington imposes restrictions, competition for diesel in Europe will intensify, which could lead to further price increases.

The average cost of diesel in Britain has now approached £2 (about $2.65) per litre, compared with £1.5 (about $2) in the middle of last year. The price increase will hit freight transport, agriculture and construction, and could further accelerate inflation, which reached 3.1% in August, the publication notes.
