Artificial intelligence is becoming too powerful a tool to be left without strict government oversight, Bill Gates said in an interview with NBC. In his view, the latest models could already lead to a catastrophe today if they fall into the hands of malicious actors.
“AI is certainly powerful enough to trigger events that could lead to the deaths of a billion people. Although achieving total annihilation is quite difficult, there has never been a weapon more frightening than people with evil intentions armed with the latest AI tools,” Gates noted.
