The Pentagon changes priorities: Domestic security is the top priority — Politico

In the USA, a new project of the National Defense Strategy is being developed, shifting the focus from confrontation with China and Russia to protecting the homeland and controlling the western hemisphere, reports Politico.

According to the report, domestic and regional tasks now take precedence over global threats. This move is seen as a "serious shift" in US policy that questions traditional commitments to global security.

The change is already evident: Thousands of National Guardsmen are supporting police in Los Angeles and Washington, while ships and F-35 jets have been sent to the Caribbean to combat drug trafficking. This week, 11 members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua were neutralised by a US military strike in international waters. A militarised zone has also been established along the southern border with Mexico.

The new document fundamentally revises the 2018 strategy, which viewed China as the main adversary. The Pentagon is prepared to reduce aid to allies: The Baltic Security Initiative will lose its funding, affecting Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
