The Brazilian government has filed a lawsuit for "genocide" against Israel at the International Court of Justice of the United Nations

The country's foreign ministry announced that the preparation of documents for the lawsuit regarding the violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide by Israel has been completed.

"The international community continues to regularly witness serious violations of human rights and humanitarian law: attacks on civilian infrastructure, including religious sites such as the Catholic community in the Gaza Strip and United Nations facilities,” the statement said.

In December 2023, South Africa filed a lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice. The African state insists that Israel's fight against Hamas constitutes genocide against the residents of Gaza. In addition to Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, Morocco, Malaysia, Turkey, Jordan, Bolivia, the Maldives, Colombia, and Venezuela support the lawsuit.

In February last year, Israel declared the President of Brazil persona non grata.
