💢 Germany's state-owned Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE, previously Gazprom Germania) was selling LNG to Asia during the summer storage-refill season, while its flagship Rehden gas storage facility remained 94% empty.
On June 24, the SEFE-chartered tanker Amur River called at India's Dahej terminal for a declared 60,000-tonne LNG discharge. Cargo records identify SEFE as the seller and India's GAIL as the buyer. The shipment represented approximately 0.84 TWh, equivalent to 41% of the gas then stored at Rehden, which held just 2.04 TWh, or 5.7% of capacity. SEFE's own annual report describes an international LNG portfolio with geographical diversion rights and opportunities to sell contracts at market value.
By October 7, Germany's national gas reserves were still only 59.2% full, substantially below previous years. Berlin had meanwhile ordered SEFE to procure and inject 8 TWh by December 15.
