“From now on, action against vessels violating the rules will no longer be limited to the Strait of Hormuz. Any vessel passing through an unauthorized route will be pursued throughout the region and will certainly be punished.”
The warning followed the IRGC's claim that it struck the LPG carrier NV Sunshine while attempting to use an unauthorized route south of the strait, causing extensive fires in its engine room and propulsion system.
The IRGC also threatened sanctions against shipping companies cooperating with US efforts to circumvent Iranian restrictions, including punitive measures against their vessels.
