Expired food at an Amazon warehouse can now be destroyed - but only under the watch of India’s food regulator. The Bombay High Court allowed Amazon Retail India to inventory and dispose of expired products at its Bhiwandi facility under FDA supervision while the company fights the cancellation of its food licence. The FDA alleges expired goods meant for disposal were being sent back into the retail market, a claim Amazon denies, while the company also argues the regulator acted without following proper procedure. The FDA must respond by August 20, with the case returning to court on August 27 - for now, at least, the disputed stock is heading for destruction rather than another shelf.
