A confusing trip to a civic office can quickly turn into business for a middleman. Citizens are urging Mumbai’s civic authorities to display procedures, fees and document requirements in Marathi, Hindi and English across all 24 wards, particularly at citizen service and health counters. Supporters say clearer information on services such as birth, death and marriage registration would help people complete applications themselves instead of paying agents simply because they do not understand the process. Sometimes transparency starts with something as basic as putting the instructions where everyone can actually read them.
