Charles Bridge, Prague. Part of the monument to Saint John of Nepomuk (1683).
This relief sculpture of a dog glows from centuries of passersby touching it—the bronze figure has been polished by countless hands over hundreds of years.
It’s the oldest of the thirty statues now adorning the bridge. The statue was erected exactly 300 years after John’s martyrdom—when he was thrown into the river in 1393.
