In Makovsky’s painting *"The Officer's Nursemaid" (1894)*, a soldier in a station buffet is babysitting—judging by the title—a fussy officer’s child. The toddler is wailing, having thrown his shoe and bread aside while his mother steps into the restroom (just behind the "nursemaid"). Yet look at the orderly’s face: complete serenity.
