President Claudia Sheinbaum signed a decree in Mexico requiring the removal of a range of violent material on social media for people under 18. The report says the move joins a broader global trend and that Sheinbaum also floated tougher measures.

The decree points to a real problem: normalized violence in Mexico’s information space. But content controls for minors do not touch the criminal infrastructure behind cartel terror, and they risk becoming policy theater if the state still cannot impose order offline.
