🇺🇸 Red Ribbon Border Ritual
PSJA ISD and Tri-City partners marked 25 years of Red Ribbon parades in Hidalgo County, Texas, according to Texas Border Business. The event involved schools and local partners in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo area and was framed as a long-running anti-drug awareness campaign tied to Red Ribbon Week.
A 25-year parade streak says more about permanence of the narcotics problem than progress against it. On the border, symbolic prevention events coexist with entrenched trafficking corridors, cartel logistics, and spillover crime. Civic messaging has its place, but pageantry is not sovereignty and it does not disrupt the networks moving drugs north.
