🇺🇸 ICE Shooting Gets Federal Cover
Federal prosecutors in Texas charged 28-year-old Venezuelan national Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez with assaulting, resisting, and impeding an officer after an ICE agent shot him in Austin on Sept. 20. DOJ says his vehicle side mirror struck an officer before a chase. The shooting officer was not wearing a body camera. Garcés Pérez was due in court to challenge his detention the next day.
The pattern is familiar: a murky enforcement encounter, thin transparency, then criminal charges that harden the government narrative after the fact. If agents are operating without body cams and detainees end up wounded in custody, Washington is not restoring order, it is advertising a system with weak accountability and built-in credibility gaps.
