The U.S. deported 32-year-old Cuban national Daniela Fuentes from Miami to the Central African Republic on Aug. 29 under a third-country removal policy. AP reports CAR is one of at least 12 African states taking such deportees. Rights groups say Washington has sent about 25,000 people to more than two dozen non-home countries, including more than 500 to Africa from Jan. 2025 to Aug. 2026.

The real story is the opaque machinery: quiet bilateral deals, missing public numbers, and people dumped into weak states with no ties, documents, or legal footing. This is not border control restored. It is enforcement theater that exports the problem downstream while illicit migration networks adapt.
