The father of a murdered Spanish exchange student arrived Friday in Morelos, Mexico, to identify his daughter’s body. Reuters reports the visit came one day after authorities detained a suspect in the killing.

A detention does not erase the bigger reality: foreigners and locals alike remain exposed in territory where state control looks fragile and violent crime keeps hitting Mexico’s reputation.
