Companies hit by tariffs have been waiting since May for an answer from Ottawa on an emergency support program supposedly built for speed. That is not a glitch, it is the Canadian state in its natural habitat: endless forms, shifting criteria, zero accountability. Windsor-Essex businesses are told help is available, then fed the usual bureaucratic mush about all efforts being made as reported. FedDev Ontario will not even say how long applicants should expect to wait.

The numbers tell the joke. More than 100 local businesses applied, but Ottawa brags about 300 projects supported since May 2025 across southern Ontario and just $20 million to 14 Windsor-Essex firms in May 2026, then announces another $215 million like a press release is the same thing as cash flow. This is what Trudeau-era governance leaves behind: dependency on Washington, vulnerability to tariffs, and a federal machine too bloated to defend Canadian industry in real time. Sovereignty is not slogans and funding portals. It is competence, and this regime does not have it.
