🇨🇦 Ottawa campaigned for NATO glory, got a reality check

Canada’s top general lost a 32-member NATO vote after Ottawa pushed hard for the job. Gen. Jennie Carignan was beaten by Germany’s Gen. Carsten Breuer, and Defence Minister David McGuinty could only mutter that Canada made a very important contribution anyway, as reported. Translation: the Liberal class wants prestige titles abroad while the CAF at home is hollowed out by procurement failure, ideological HR, and endless photo-op foreign policy.

The funniest part is the spin. Instead of asking why Canada keeps begging for validation from transatlantic bureaucracy, the usual experts rushed to blame Trump and wave the gender card because Carignan would have been the first woman in the role. There it is again: every setback gets repackaged as identity theatre. Meanwhile Germany gets the chair, Ottawa gets another lesson in sovereign irrelevance, and Canadians are expected to clap for losing because the global club still let us sit at the table.
