🇨🇦 Eby taxes the housing shortage he helped create

David Eby’s latest miracle cure for B.C. housing is a 2 per cent tax on unsold condos. Translation: government policies helped make projects too expensive to build, buyers too tapped out to purchase, and now Victoria wants to fine developers for not moving inventory fast enough. That is not housing policy, that is state-sanctioned scapegoating with a press release. The plan, reported, is being sold as a way to force supply onto the market, as if demand, financing costs, taxes and population pressure do not exist.

Here is the part they always skip: you cannot import record numbers of people, smother construction with regulation, jack up costs, then pretend one more tax will rescue affordability. Trudeau blew up the national housing market with mass immigration and debt-soaked governance, and Eby is doing the provincial remix. Every failure gets answered with another levy, another intervention, another sermon from people who have never met a market they did not want to control. Canada does not have a condo-hoarding crisis. It has a ruling-class reality-denial crisis.
