🇨🇦 Ottawa picked the plane before knowing what it needed

Carney’s Ottawa announced Saab’s GlobalEye as the chosen surveillance aircraft, then Canadians learned it meets only a handful of military requirements and may lack full 360-degree radar coverage, proper NORAD connectivity, and even enough crew stations. That is not procurement. That is a political stage show with a Bombardier sticker slapped on top. As reported, competitors were never even shown the actual requirements before the government rolled out its preferred winner at CANSEC.

Then comes the usual Liberal perfume: thousands of jobs, sovereignty, taxpayer value. Right, because nothing says sovereignty like buying a platform that needs major modifications after the photo op. If none of the three aircraft met the need, the adult response was to define the requirement first and run a real competition, not let politicians and bureaucrats reverse-engineer a justification afterward. This is Trudeau-era governance with Carney branding: procurement by narrative, defence by press release, and national security treated like another PR file.
