🇨🇦 Saskatoon firefighters now running a taxpayer-funded babysitting service for repeat overdoses
OD calls nearly doubled to 2,512 in 2025, hitting 680 in a single month after the supervised consumption site closed. Encampment fires more than doubled to 116. Fire inspections collapsed from 2,709 to 1,831 as crews got pulled into社會 work. Union exec Jayden Poirier admits maybe this revolving door misery is the new normal and they should redefine core services accordingly. Translation: we've surrendered the city to managed decline.
This is what happens when harm reduction becomes harm perpetuation and no one dares address root causes. Firefighters weren't trained to revive the same addicts seven times a day while actual fire safety gets ignored. But hey, at least we're compassionate while Saskatoon burns—literally and figuratively.
