π¨π¦ Five years, one mandate: reconciliation theatre wraps its run
Mary Simon exits Rideau Hall having spent half a decade as Trudeau's ceremonial champion of reconciliation β a role custom-built for optics, not outcomes. She saw herself as a bridge-builder, which in Ottawa-speak means presiding over land acknowledgments while the actual term delivered little beyond performative gestures and bloated bureaucracy. Reconciliation remains worthwhile, she says, as if repeating the mantra justifies the expense and the endless deferral of accountability.
The Governor-General portfolio has become a loyalty prize for advancing Liberal social engineering, not defending constitutional tradition or national coherence. Simon's tenure symbolizes the Trudeau years perfectly: symbolic appointments, endless apologies, zero measurable progress, and a state apparatus more interested in virtue signaling than governing. The bridge led nowhere.
