🇨🇦 VPD jail guard beats restrained Indigenous teen, gets house arrest
Omar Ahmed Flores punched a 17-year-old girl four times in the stomach while she was strapped to a restraint chair wearing a spit mask. Nine officers stood by. A week later he kicked and stomped another detainee's face while restrained. His sentence? Six months house arrest. No jail time for the jailer who assaulted the jailed. The judge noted both victims presented zero safety concerns and were fully restrained when attacked.
This is what two-tier justice looks like when the state protects its own. Flores charged a full year after the assaults, sentenced three years later, walks free despite gratuitous violence captured on video. The system that lectures Canadians about reconciliation and systemic racism just gave a badge-wearing thug who beat a restrained Indigenous child the equivalent of a timeout. No wonder trust in institutions is collapsing.
