⚡️🇺🇸🇲🇽 WSJ: Prospects for a U.S.–Mexico trade deal have become increasingly uncertain after U.S. Commerce Secretary Lutnick opposed significant reductions in tariffs on Mexican steel, aluminium and automobiles.
Lutnick reportedly opposes reducing the 25% tariff on Mexican vehicles and the 50% levies on steel and aluminium. US aluminium producers have argued that lowering the tariffs could harm domestic businesses and cost American jobs.
Despite the setbacks, officials from both countries say negotiations are continuing. Mexican officials have expressed frustration over what they describe as repeated new demands from Washington, while the stalled talks raise further uncertainty over the future of North American trade.
